Biography

Josef Pallwein-Prettner is an Austrian writer, director, and producer whose work spans documentary, fiction, and animation. A trained medical doctor turned filmmaker, Josef combines a deep interest in human stories with an analytical, research-driven approach to storytelling. In 2008, he founded SINE LEGE FILM, an independent production company based in Vienna, producing original and internationally distributed content that often bridges science, culture, and social issues.

His recent works include the acclaimed documentary series Great Moments (ORF III, 2023 & 2024) and the animated preschool series Rookie Robot Explores the World, distributed by Meta-Media London and broadcast across Europe, Korea, and Canada. Other notable titles include Blue Magic – How Viagra Changed the World (2020), Sign of Humanity: The Legacy of Henry Dunant (2009), and Schrammel Klang (2011). His upcoming projects include 9 Minutes35 Years in Porn, and the feature film Darkwhite, developed through the AFI Script Development Program.

Josef’s work has received multiple international distinctions, including the Gold Dolphin at Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards, several Prix Victoria Gold and Silver Awards (Vienna), the Carl Mayer Script Award at Diagonale Graz, the Los Angeles Silver Screen Award, and a nomination for the Austrian National Award for Patents 2025.
