In Loving Memory of Lee W. Jr. Gluckman

We are saddened by the news of the loss of a trusted filmmaker whom we all connected with, Lee Gluckman. We wish his wife Shannon and daughter Kristen moments of joy and tears of happiness filled with the richness of memories created together with Lee as we all mourn his passing. Lee always exhibited a broad smile, a joy for the life in which he was immersed and a respect for the endeavors we all pursued. We all loved Lee and respected his commitments, talents and generosity that so defined his encounters with each of us. Always, he would have energy to offer, ideas to contemplate and stories to share. He was a man who labored to make the world more familiar. As a long-standing member of IQ Lee was an embodiment of the spirit of this organization. His work as a negotiator for labor and producer contracts kept him on the frontlines of the motion picture industry, working to ensure that actors and producers would treat one another fairly. As the CEO of two of the most respected festivals, US International Film and Video Festival and the Mobius Awards, he showcased media from around the world made by filmmakers seeking the honor his festivals offered. He introduced talented filmmakers he met through his festivals to IQ, many of whom today have become great members of this organization. You would always expect to see Lee at a conference. He hosted a memorable gathering in Los Angeles in 2004 and was determined to make the business of IQ fun and meaningful. He would arrange for the winner of IQ’s coveted One World Award given through his USIFV Festival to be presented at the conference. This award which honors a production engaging viewers with universal themes that express our shared humanity would be found on his festival home page where he proudly displayed his organization’s connection to IQ. Lee has been a Member of IQ since 1971 making him one of the longest standing active Members. It is hard to imagine a conference without his presence, a year without judging films with him, a glass of wine without his colorful pronouncements. His voice will resonate for a long time as we celebrate a life lived well and loved well, a life amongst fellow travelers who gave us all something to cherish-his friendship.
